Planning Application | Hackleton, Northampton

Old School House

Bordering an existing (c.1866) school & playground, the clients' requirement was for a much-needed access driveway -to the front of the property, which borders the main road through Hackleton.

Given the proximity of the school & playground, the driveway needed to encompass the safety of the children -at all times. The initial proposal was for a fenced option (providing maximum visibility to the car on entrance/exit. Given the age of the building, the local authority allowed the client to retain the existing brick wall -for street-side aesthetics. The remainder of the driveway meet all requirements and was passed by the local authority.

Enjoy the guaranteed parking, Mrs. E.

The 'Green Roof'

Another online submission, with the client's requirement for a green roof c/w a medieval themed, south facing, traditional stone built facade -minimizing the impact of the build on-site.

The gallery/hallway features traditional shape openings and stone lintels to take advantage of the only exposed wall. The property features a cantilevered roof edge and rolling/feature exits/entrances.

With the addition of a garage (not quite connected), with feature corner/drainage detail the area.

We feel the proposal provides harmony and a very organic/natural setting for the client.

The 'not just a bike shop'

With the client's requirement for a working space that could be cleared (floor space) at a moments notice, whilst allowing shop floor space for the majority. The proposal provided this, along with additional plans for advertising space to the walls (also removable!). A small bar/cafe area so their client's could relax whilst awaiting a repair -or just to be sociable.

Diverging Architecture took home first prize in the competition. I hope the new space serves them well.
